Last year’s preparation course for the CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) started in October 2019 and the students of grade 7 were to take the exam in June 2020. However, the pandemic thwarted our plan as the course came to a sudden halt and the date was officially cancelled worldwide. At first, nobody knew how things would develop, so some of the participants stayed focused and simply kept on studying. In December 2020 two girls finally considered themselves fit enough to enter the exam and did very well indeed: Congratulations to Francesca Juffinger and Sofia Rojo Seewald (8AIL)! A couple of students are going to take the exam in June 2021 together with this year’s course participants.

The CAE exam consists of four parts: Reading and Use of English, Listening, Writing, and Speaking. The level is C1. (Matura is B2+). Therefore, high-level motivation and proper preparation are a must.

Me as well as students like Francesca and Sofia would like to encourage all students who simply love English to consider taking the exam as well, since the preparation course takes their English to a high level. The certificate can even work as a door-opener as it is recognised by more than 6000 organisations, employers and governments around the world. Moreover, it allows students to follow an academic course at university level.

Mag. Dagmar Moser-Jenko, M.A.

We would like to thank Mag. Moser-Jenko for her guidance throughout the course and also during the summer, as well as for letting me, Sofia, take part in this year’s CAE-course and for her love of detail, thanks to which our English improved substantially.
