The Ultimate Travel Cookbook
To Happy Smiles
L O N D O N
"When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life"
is attributed to Samuel Johnson, a prominent 18th century English writer and lexicographer. And we certainly agree (obviously this quote refers to all people, not just men!)
Students from 6A and 6B together with their teachers spent six unforgettable days in Britain’s capital and found out that a perfect trip is like a
cookbook
with great recipes. All you need are the right ingredients and an all-good atmosphere!
Must haves: lovely teachers, fun-loving students, warm-hearted host families, fantastic sights and tours, and also specialities of the day
Recipe 1:
Today I Choose Joy
INGREDIENTS:
- Energy for being an early bird
- Enough endurance for walking through the City of London
- Food to attract birds in the park
- Creativity for a graffiti-masterpiece
- Gloss paint markers for a London reminder
DIRECTIONS:
Recipe for the perfect start of a breathtaking journey
- Wake up really early and take the bus to the airport. Be sure to have enough energy.
- Fight your way through security, sleep during the flight! You will need it to survive.
- Next, make sure to have your camera ready to capture images of the squirrels in Green Park.
- Walk to Buckingham Palace and check on the royals.
- Afterwards, put some food on your hand to attract parakeets (ignore the pigeons, unless you like that) in St. James´s Park. Walk to the Horse Guards at Whitehall.
- One of the most important steps is to walk over Westminster Bridge and take a quick look at the London Eye. Do not forget to check the time on Big Ben, because you must not miss the graffiti artists in the Leake Street Arches!
- Enjoy the masterpieces and meet the artists in the arches; set your creativity free, and leave a legal gloss paint mark there, so London won´t forget you.
- Take the train to Mottingham and meet your warm-hearted host families that will welcome you to their homes.
- And last but not least, have a delicious dinner, and go to bed and take your beauty-sleep. You deserve it!
If you follow these steps properly, you will have an unforgettable first day in London. Have fun trying this main course!

Speciality of Day 2:
Feel Good Moments+Memories
Hakuna Matata, …
…. the feeling of an African savannah and astonishing animal wildlife right in the city centre of Britain’s capital.
On Tuesday evening we enjoyed our time at the Lyceum Theatre, where the fantastic musical The Lion King was performed.
After finding our way through the back door with the help of some lovely staff members, we were amazed by the incredible size of the auditorium. Our seats were perfectly located and offered a fantastic view of the stage.
The whole show was a great experience because of the fantastic artists who brought the whole story to life. The performances and costumes were breathtaking and made the whole audience speechless with admiration. The songs instantly caught our attention and we couldn´t stop swinging. The stage concept and thrilling choreographies led to `WOW´ effects, and of course, the topless muscular actors and dancers were the girls´ and our English teachers´ favourites.
The whole show gave us lovely goosebump moments which left a smile on our faces and their message in our hearts.

Speciality of the Day 3:
Stronger Than the Storm
How 2 boys on crutches survived London among 26 girls
It is harder than it sounds!
From a priority boarding start to the first obstacle. 20.000 steps on the first day! In the evening, we thought our arms would fall off. But every day things got better.
Thanks to our daily fitness programme we even managed an extra muscle training session in the morning, when our host family´s taxi suddenly stopped. Why? - The petrol tank was empty halfway to the station, so we had to walk the distance with a story to tell.
We quickly became stronger because of the highly nutritious food (from Mc Donald´s), and also got used to the pain (and also to most manners of the girls) Our biggest friend was definitely London´s public transport.
In the end, we came back home with arms of steel and beautiful impressions of London.
So, if you think that visiting London on crutches isn’t possible, we are living proof that it is!

Specialitiy of Day 4:
Safari for Free
My Most Exciting Moment During the London Week
One of the most exciting experiences during our London week started with an Instagram story. My classmate Mattia found out that a German YouTuber named Sam on Safari was doing a big giveaway in London. He has a fashion brand called Deputy Department, which is very popular among teenagers, especially boys. I didn’t know him, but I got interested when my classmate told me about him.
W e arrived early and watched the crowd grow. But Sam was late. Then he posted a different location. Everyone started to run. The two boys from our group even ran without their crutches! At the new place, there were already many people. Sam was standing on his black car throwing designer clothes and shoes into the crowd. It was loud and wild, with police everywhere to keep the crowd under control.
I was at the back of the crowd and didn’t expect to get anything. But suddenly, a shoebox flew in my direction and landed in my hands! I held it tight, fell down, got up quickly, and ran away so no one could take it away from me. I had caught Big Stepper shoes, I couldn´t believe my luck!
I will never forget this day! I’m really happy our teachers let us go—and that Mr. Krimbacher was so relaxed and supportive. The boys from our group were also very proud of the clothes they had caught. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that I will always remember with a smile.

Speciality of Day 5:
`RUN´– tastic Event
It´s always good to run for your goals
It was the fifth day of our trip to London. Like every day, we met at the train station in Mottingham. Our plan was to take the train to Greenwich Park and then walk to the starting line of this year´s London Marathon. That sounds easy, but it was not. Because of the big crowds of runners and fans, it was hard to find our way, so we thought we would miss the start of the elite men’s race.
Luckily, Mrs. Krimbacher asked some runners how to find the fastest way to the start area. We took a train and arrived at Blackheath station 15 minutes later. There were so many people! Volunteers handed out flyers, and we followed a big group of runners to the start. When we arrived, Mrs. Krimbacher and I asked some more people where the best place was to witness the start.
I was nervous because the race was about to start in 10 minutes. So we all started to run. For me this was not fast enough, so I asked Mrs. Krimbacher if I could run ahead. At first, she said no because of the group. But when I asked again, she said yes! So I did my fastest sprint ever, because I am a big fan of the triathlete Alex Yee, who was at the front.
I looked at my watch. Only 3 minutes left. I was full of adrenaline. I started to sprint. My backpack was bouncing, and I even lost something, but I didn’t stop. When I arrived at the barriers right next to the starting line, I quickly took out my phone and started filming. I couldn’t believe it. I had made it! Even though I thought it would be impossible.
I was so happy, and Mrs. Krimbacher and my classmates were happy too. I could see my idol Alex Yee in front of my eyes! He finished the marathon in fantastic 14th place.
It was the perfect way to start the fifth day!

7 steps to handle a day with 57 000 runners

- Survive the crowded train ride to Blackheath and get to the electrifying London Marathon start area. After all the adrenaline, enjoy something to drink at one of the nearby coffeeshops.
- Jump on the train to Greenwich station and watch enthusiastic runners and spectators again. Try to reach the Cutty Sark and change your plan when streets are too congested and the sun is too hot. If someone has circulatory problems, pour water over their head.

- When you arrive, take care of your belongings and don’t `get ripped off´! Walk through the market, buy souvenirs and eat delicious food.
